Blockchain

Money, cryptography, Bitcoin, Ethereum and smart contracts, up to a dApp on a testnet.

Blockchain
Week 1Money, Trust And LedgersNotes and slides

You learn what problem blockchains were invented to solve: sending digital value without a central referee. You finish able to explain double spending, intermediaries and shared ledgers in plain words.

Week 2Cryptography You NeedNotes and slides

You learn the four cryptographic tools every blockchain uses: hash functions, key pairs, digital signatures and Merkle trees. You run short Python demos of each so the ideas become concrete.

Week 3BitcoinNotes and slides

You study how Bitcoin works from the 2008 whitepaper to the mining loop: UTXOs, transactions, blocks, proof of work and the fixed supply. You write a toy miner in Python to feel what proof of work costs.

Week 4ConsensusNotes and slides

You learn how thousands of computers agree on one history: proof of work, proof of stake, finality, forks and the economics of attacks. You simulate fork choice and stake-weighted selection in Python.

Week 5Ethereum And Smart ContractsNotes and slides

You learn how Ethereum extends the blockchain idea from payments to programs: accounts, gas, the EVM and smart contracts. You set up a wallet, get free testnet coins and read live network data with Python.

Week 6Writing A First Smart ContractNotes and slides

You write, compile and deploy two small Solidity contracts using the Remix browser editor, first on a practice VM and then on the Sepolia testnet. You finish able to call your contract and read the results on a block explorer.

Week 7Tokens: ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155Notes and slides

You learn how a token is just a contract with a ledger inside it, and how the main Ethereum token standards differ. You also practice designing a token and reading and writing correct Solidity for it.

Week 8DeFi: Markets Built From ContractsNotes and slides

You learn how decentralized finance builds swapping, lending and stable money out of smart contracts and tokens. You also learn where its main risks come from and how to read a protocol before you trust it.

Week 9Scaling: Rollups And Layer 2Notes and slides

You learn why blockchains hit capacity limits and how rollups move work off the main chain while keeping its security. You also learn how optimistic and zero-knowledge rollups differ, why data availability matters, and how bridges work.

Week 10Wallets, Security And CustodyNotes and slides

You learn how wallets, seed phrases and hardware devices protect keys, and how attackers target people and contracts. You also learn to recognize reentrancy and other common contract bugs and to read an audit with the right expectations.

Week 11Real-World Use And RegulationNotes and slides

You learn where blockchains help in identity, supply chains, payments and public goods funding, and where a normal database works better. You also learn how regulators approach the field, with a high-level look at the EU and Turkey.

Week 12Capstone: Build And Deploy A dApp On A TestnetNotes and slides

You design, build, deploy and present a small decentralized application on a test network, using everything from weeks 1 to 11. A clear brief, rubric, demo script and review checklist guide your work and your feedback to peers.
